ART - ENERGY FOR YOUR SPIRIT

FEED YOUR SPIRIT WITH LIGHT AND ENERGY THROUGH ART
AT
THE LIFE EXHIBITION

Alchemy ( Alchemy9 ) Abye creates art because she feels the work is her destiny. Prompted by an irrepressible urge to follow her spiritual path creating what she refers to as Spirit Art. As Alchemy explains Art is always subjectively in the eye of the beholder. In the case of her work, she feels it is energy made into art channeled by spirit guides through her.

These spirit guides send messages for many. Her belief is that individuals are drawn to a piece of her work, and view what it is they are intended to. Not all are intended to see beyond what is painted on the canvas. For others the images may change in their perception as they focus upon them she tells me. Some may feel totally drawn to a particular work as it is in their that a message lies in wait for them.

Ultimately she hopes that if nothing more all can leave with these messages of “Life”, being hope, faith, and love... as well as a fulfillment of positive thought and emotion. Perhaps reflecting on deeper levels of awareness than before. Alchemy’s mindset is that “The Life Exhibition” is a rather apt title for her work.

In her own word it is all about life. Perhaps not conventionally as life is recognized,  rather on all levels of awareness. Second Life seems to be one of them, won't you join us in viewing this marvelous exhibit of color and canvas which captures the essence of the soul?

Black and White and Fascinating All Over

The fascination of Second Life is usually its three-dimensional quality. The ability to pass through a 3-D environment and interact with objects that are textured and shaded to enhance that quality, to make it as life-like as possible, is perhaps the defining feature of the experience of being in SL. What, then, do we make of a sim constructed to the polar opposite of those factors?

This is *C i c a*, the latest Linden Endowment for the Arts installation. It is (apparently) a two-dimensional environment, void of color or significant texture, and peopled by stick figures.

The simple black-line environment is utterly charming. Trees and flowers sway in the breeze, the stick figures interact with each other and their surroundings, and surprising emotion is evoked through the simplicity of the design.

I joined a stick-fisherman on a bridge for a while, looking out over the landscape. It was an odd experience to feel so fully human in SL; the obviously hand-drawn nature of the surroundings made my virtual representative feel less like pixels, having more in common with the line drawings around him than with his operator, and more like flesh and blood.

* C i c a * is an enchanting installation and artist Cica Ghost has created a wonderful venue to either pass through or linger in contemplation.

Only in dreams

"When I started this project I had no idea that people's dreams and wishes would be so much scarier, personal and moving than their fears." The opening line of the notecard invitation to Pho Vinternatt's new exhibit of art and text sets the stage for a moving experience.

TPing in lands you in a totally white room, facing a blank wall.  Turning, a long white room is revealed, flanked on either side by a book-like display of photos with a facing page of text. The simple presentation belies the complexity of the exhibit: the headshots say more than is visible at first glance.

Each headshot is paired with text outlining the dreams of the subject. At once highly personal and utterly universal, these pairings offer the hopes, fears, desires, and regrets that we all carry in our hearts.

As with his previous exhibit "Fear," Pho has used the beauty and anonymity of our Second Lives to give light to the matters that haunt our first lives.

"Dreams" can be found at http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Space%20Illusion%202/124/226/545

Malaika SL9B & Pride Fair

In honor of SL9B's theme of "community" and to celebrate Pride events going on in SL at the same time, Malaika Park sims has joined in with an open house event that showcases the talented vendors and artists of its community.

Starting today, Monday June 18, visit the open house to view some two dozen vendor booths (with lots of generous free gifts to be had) and artists' displays.

On June 21, the weekly Mayhem at Malaika dance party features the lovely and talented DJ Mirah from 6pm to 8pm SLT.

The last day of the event, June 24, will see an afternoon beach party from 2pm to 4pm SLT followed from 6pm to 8pm by a celebration of SL9B and Pride with DJ Mirah, culminating with a fireworks display!

The Malaika Park sims are beautiful to explore at any time, but with the added fun of the open house and special events, there's no excuse not to wander through, pick up some free gifts from the vendors, buy some of their wares, and enjoy the friendly community.

And stop by the Blithe SL booth while you're there: hit the kiosk for the current issue, and join our inworld group to keep up on what we're doing. Don't forget to pick up a special gift from Blithe SL, made by our talented CEO Merrick Genesis.

Supporting the Arts in Second Life

There are lots of good deeds done by residents of Second Life, many of which provide donations to an array of First Life charities and causes. Relay for Life, in support of the American Cancer Society, is well known and loved by many SL residents, and there are many other less–well-known fundraisers that do excellent work. But in SL as in RL, the arts are often overlooked when it comes to funding. The Avatar Charitable Trust seeks to improve that situation.

When Creativity and Mesh Mix

Mesh takes artistic expression to surreal new levels.
One of the best things in Second Life, in my opinion, is the expansive creativity that colors the grid. With only the tools provided by Linden Labs and impressive imaginations, creators bring us objects to enhance our world and beautiful sims to explore. An example of the creativity inworld is Art Screamer's "spirit", a sculptural installation viewable in SL now through the end of the month. Claudia222 Jewell is the mind behind this amazing, multi-faceted mesh exhibit, and says she only started working with 3D rendering in January of 2011.
